Tilt Table Testing
What the Service Involves
The tilt table test involves strapping you securely to a motorized table, which then tilts to raise your body from a horizontal to a vertical position. This test helps assess how your heart rate and blood pressure respond to gravity—a key indicator of how well your autonomic nervous system is functioning.
Preparation
You should avoid eating or drinking anything except water for several hours before the test. You may also need to stop taking certain medications under the guidance of your physician to ensure accurate results.
During the Test
You’ll be continuously monitored as the table tilts. The entire procedure can last from 30 minutes to an hour, during which your heart rate, blood pressure, and any symptoms are recorded.
Benefits
Tilt table testing is crucial for diagnosing conditions that cause fainting or dizziness, such as vasovagal syncope or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). It helps tailor specific treatments based on how your body reacts to changes in position.
